The
Village
of
Schaumburg
is committed to ensuring all community members and visitors have appropriate access to facilities within the village, including private businesses, such as entertainment, lodging, medical, restaurant, and shopping establishments.
This commitment also extends to ensuring that the village does not discriminate on the basis of disability in its employment practices or in allowing participation in any village services provided to the public.

Progress Center for Independent Living
The
Progress Center for Independent Living
directly assists persons with disabilities to establish lives in the community. They serve and support people with disabilities of all ages to increase and maintain independence. They also assist families and the community.
Schaumburg Township Disability Services
The
Disability Services Department
assists residents of Schaumburg Township with disabilities with a variety of services and acts as a referral and information resource center for many programs offered to the disabled community.

Grievance Procedure under the Americans with Disabilities Act
This Grievance Procedure is established to meet the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (
ADA
). It may be used by anyone who wishes to file a complaint alleging discrimination on the basis of disability in the provision of activities, benefits, programs, or services by the
Village
of
Schaumburg
. The village's personnel manual governs employment-related complaints of disability discrimination.
The complaint should be in writing, contain information about the alleged discrimination such as name, address, email address, phone number of complainant and location, date, and description of the problem, signed by the complainant. Alternative means of filing complaints, such as personal interviews or a tape recording of the complaint will be made available for persons with disabilities upon request.
A signed complaint should be submitted by the complainant or designee as soon as possible but no later than 30 calendar days after the alleged violation to:

Within 21 calendar days after receipt of the complaint, a written response will be sent via Certified Mail to the complainant.
If the response does not satisfactorily resolve the issue, the complainant or his/her representative may appeal the decision within 21 calendar days to the Village Manager or designee.
Within 21 calendar days after receipt of the appeal, the Village Manager or designee will meet with the complainant to discuss the complaint and possible resolutions. Within 21 calendar days after the meeting, the Village Manager or designee will respond in writing and send the response via Certified Mail to complainant. The decision of the Village Manager shall be final.
If for any reason there is a need to extend any of the 21 calendar day limits, an extension may be considered after consultation between the complainant and the village.
All written complaints received by ADA Coordinator, appeals to the Village Manager or designee, and responses from these two offices will be retained by the Village of Schaumburg for at least three years.
