The National Weather Service has indicated that hot and very humid conditions will push the heat index to well over 100 degrees across a large portion of the central and southern states this week. Excessive Heat Warnings and Heat Advisories are being issued for much of the Midwest through the weekend. Be very cautious if you must perform outdoor activities, especially in the afternoon and evening hours. The Chicagoland area may see highs in the middle to upper 90s with heat index values topping 100 degrees Thursday through Saturday. Lows may only dip into the middle 70s.
Visit the National Weather Service’s website for tips on the best way to practice heat safety, remain cool and avoid heat-related illnesses. The Centers for Disease Control website also has additional information on how to keep cool in hot weather. As a reminder, for their safety, please do not leave children or pets unattended in hot vehicles.
For those who need to access air conditioning, consider visiting Woodfield Mall, the Schaumburg Township Library or Schaumburg Park District Recreation Center (CRC) as a few options to keep cool.
In the event of a prolonged area power outage, the Village of Schaumburg will activate a temporary cooling center or centers as needed. Information will be provided on the village’s website, via the Schaumburg 311 Center, cable and social media as needed. The public is reminded to always dial 911 in an emergency to request assistance from the village’s police or fire department.
