Commercial Temporary Sign Resource Guide

A temporary sign permit is required for installation of a temporary sign on a premise. Signage in the village is governed by the Sign Ordinance. For those with questions, please contact the Permitting Division of the Community Development Department at 847.923.4420.

Current Fees

$12 for each 10-day increment for free-standing commercial buildings only; up to 60 days per calendar year

$18 for each 15-day increment for tenants in shopping centers up to 30 days per calendar year.

Submittal Requirements:

  • Temporary sign permit application and written landlord approval
  • Two copies of dimensioned sign drawings showing all content
  • Temporary ground signs will require two copies of site plan with sign location indicated

Required Inspections:

  • Upon installation
  • Upon removal

Inspections can be scheduled up to 4pm the business day prior to the requested inspection date by contacting the Permitting Division of the Community Development Department at 847.923.4420.

Code Requirements:

  • 32 square feet per side
  • Maximum height - 7 feet
  • 1 sign per street frontage
  • Limited to 15 items of information
  • Shopping centers - 12 total per year for entire centers
    • Individual tenants - 60 days of temporary signage per calendar year in 15-day increments
