Garbage Pickup Program

Pickup Times
Garbage, recyclable material, and appliances are picked up once a week. Different trucks are used to collect the various types of material at different times of the day. Grouping refuse and recyclables separately at the curb will help reduce missed collections.
- Materials must be placed at the curbside by 7am the morning of collection.
- Republic Services will not return to pick up late set-outs. If items were out before 7am, but were not picked up, Republic Services may be contacted at 1.847.981.0091.
Holidays
Monday thru Thursday's collection will be delayed by one day if any of the following holidays falls on or before the regular pick up day:

Refuse Containers and Preparation
- Durable metal, plastic cans with handles, or sealed impervious bags may be used to place refuse at the curb.

- Check with your homeowners’ association for specific rules concerning the type of containers you can set at the curb

- Containers may not exceed 33 gallons.
|

- Up to two cubic yards of materials (i.e., 6'x3'x3') from “do-it-yourself” scale remodeling projects will be collected from each household, each week.

- Loose materials must be placed in containers like other garbage, or securely tied in bundles not exceeding 4 ft. in length and 50 lbs.
|
- Quantities of remodeling debris exceeding two cubic yards and large, awkward or heavy items are subject to special pickup requirements or charges. Call Republic Services Inc. for specific instructions.

- Carpeting and padding must be cut into widths not exceeding 4 ft. and tied into rolled bundles; total weight should not exceed 50 lbs.

- Window and patio door glass must be broken out and placed into a box clearly labeled “broken glass.”
|
- Window or door frames must also be disassembled and placed in a box or with other garbage.
|
- Grills and gas powered equipment must have fuel tanks removed and emptied. The empty tanks are to be placed in the trash separately.

Yard Waste
Yard waste is collected from April 1 to December 15 only. A special two-week collection period for Christmas trees and greenery will be the first two full weeks in January.
Smaller brush and yard waste can be placed into biodegradable yard waste paper bags not to exceed 30 gallons in capacity or 50 pounds in weight.
Larger brush piles must be bundled using garden string or twine. The bundle size is restricted to 4’ in length, 2’ diameter, and no heavier than 50 pounds. Branches cannot exceed 3” in diameter.
Branches or stumps larger than 3” in diameter cannot be placed in the landscape waste bags; they must be handled with regular refuse. Weight is limited to a maximum of 50 pounds. 65 or 95 Gallon Cart Program for Garbage or Recycling
Republic Services, Inc. will provide, at the option of the resident, an approved 65 or 95 gallon wheeled cart with lid for a rental charge of $2.01 per month or a one time purchase price of $70.42. Please Specify for Garbage or Recycling use. Contact Republic Services at 847.981.0091 to place an order. Carts sold by home improvement and hardware stores are not recommended because they may not be compatible with the lifting devices on the Republic Services garbage trucks.
Recycling Bin
The blue recycling bin serves as a visual signal to the collection crew that recyclables have been set out for pickup. If a single container is not large enough for the weekly volume of recyclables, residents may purchase an additional bin from Republic Services for $9.05 and have it delivered to their door. Residents should mark their recycle bins with their address.

Explosive and volatile waste will not be collected.
Hazardous Waste
Household hazardous wastes, including chemicals, insecticides, herbicides, fertilizers, oil, paint, varnishes, strippers, solvents, and similar items should be used up completely. The empty container may then be disposed of as refuse. Such containers may not be placed in recycling bins, even if they are rinsed out. Contact the Village of Schaumburg Engineering and Public Works Logistics Coordinator at 847.923.6644 with questions concerning household hazardous waste disposal options.
To have hazardous components of used appliances removed for recycling, residents should contact the store from which the item was purchased. They may be able to pick up appliances when the new appliance is delivered.
