Beginning January 1, it will no longer be legal for individuals to dispose of unwanted electronics in their regular trash.  The Illinois Electronic Products Recycling and Reuse Act, which took effect in 2008 bans the disposal of electronics into landfills.

Electronics will be Tagged
It is illegal for the refuse collection contractor to knowingly collect electronics.  Route drivers will tag electronics left out for collection.  It is the responsibility of the resident to properly recycle electronic waste.
