By law, most public employees are allowed to organize into groups or unions and bargain collectively for wages, benefits, and working conditions. The majority of the village's full time employees are represented by five different unions. This page includes links to collective bargaining agreements that have been negotiated between the unions and the village.
There are various state and federal laws that govern what the village is required to negotiate and how that process works. Sworn police and fire personnel are not allowed to strike by State law and in return, if the village and unions can not come to an agreement an independent arbitrator makes the final decisions.
All personnel not covered by unions are covered under the village's personnel manual.
